Who will conduct this attack?
The hacker's group called a Lazarus group of Korea is planning this hacking campaign. This group is also blamed for the 2014 cyberattack on Sony pictured Entertainment and the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack that was done on the US and Britain. Previously this Lazarus group also attacked India trying to steal customer's ATM card data as reported by Kaspersky security.
How will be this attack?
The hackers will use Covid-19 phishing emails to target more than 50 lakhs people in India. These emails will take the target individual to the website and luring them to put their personal data and bank account details. The emails will be luring in the name of providing extra funds for Covid-19 support or extra funds. Hence they will ask for bank details to transfer the amount but the real intension is to collect their financial details and personal information and later hack their account money. Also, you can get notification of offers from Flipkart or Amazon, and clicking these notifications will take you to hackers made false Flipkart or Amazon website they look the same as original Amazon or Flipcart pages but actually are fake how to identify?
- The prices are very low such that it cannot be believed. For example only 1 thousand for a 20 thousand INR mobile.
- The offered percentage or discounts is very high such that never seen before.
- Very little or no information on the products given.
- There are very few products available on fake websites whereas the actual accounts have thousands of products.
- There may be very few or no reviews of the given products.
- The URL of the website is different from Flipkart or Amazon site but the website looks like Flipcart or Amazon.

Next, the mail may contain attachments. Actually, these attachments are malware and after downloading these attachments to the device. This malware will collect your personal information and payment details. According to Singapore's cybersecurity headquarters, these hackers have personal email IDs of about 20 lakh Indians.
How to protect yourself?
The first important thing is that never open emails from unknown sources even having the Chinese language. In India, according to news, the email will be shown from the government side the email ids will look like the Indian government and hence asking for your personal details and bank account details to provide extra funds for COVID-19 from the government side. Actually, these emails target to collect your information. So what is to be done never open such emails or download attachments from such emails. Always check from government official sites if such is given or not.
If you get any discount notification from Amazon or Flipcart never open that notification instead you open the Amazon or Flipcart application in your device or website from google search or your previous bookmarks hence you will never get in the trap of such fraud websites.
Last but not least don't ever put your account details on any website verify the website is genuine or not. Even if you get notified from a government website to put account details check and find out if such details are asked by the government or not.
That's all our security is in our hand and becoming careful will help everyone a lot and save us from these hackers and monetary loss.
